Factories metrics reported here represent VF Compliance data and Supplier Sustainability results for factories producing Timberland products only. To our best ability, we have mapped prior assessment scoring systems to VF’s audit ratings; however, the new ratings are not directly comparable to our historical information. Metric Tons of Carbon Emissions

Our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory includes emissions from owned and operated facilities, as well as employee air travel.

Renewable Energy as Percentage of Total Energy Use

Our renewable energy use represents the percentage of energy we source from clean renewable energy vs. fossil-fuel based energy. Renewable energy purchases also represent on-site generation.

We utilize the environmental framework and scoring methodology of the Global Social Compliance Program (GSCP). GSCP is framework measures suppliers environmental performance in 9 different categories. A target of Level 2 in the energy management category means factories have achieved Proactive Management.

% of Product Line that is Green Index^® scored

In 2012, not all production was captured in our product life cycle management system (PLM), which is used to calculate Green Index^® scores for our products. 2012 and future data will measure the percentage of products scored with Green Index^® rating by volume, which better represents production (or pairs of shoes) that have Green Index^® scores. This more accurately reflects Timberland’s ability to provide consumers with information about the products they are most likely to buy or encounter.

Average Grams/Pair of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

We target the reduction, substitution, or elimination of high VOC-content materials to promote lower environmental impact and improved working conditions in factories.

% Tanneries that score Silver or Gold according to Leather Working Group protocols (Footwear)

Tanneries are rated according to the Leather Working Group (LWG) audit for environmental performance.

% Materials that is Renewable, Organic, or Recycled (Apparel)

This metric applies to Timberland branded apparel only. Recycled, Organic, and Renewable information is obtained from licensee partners and Timberland’s own design teams.

% Factories that are Rejected

Factories receive Rejected, Accepted to be Upgraded (ATBU) or Accepted scores within VF’s auditing protocol. Continued Business Partner factories with Rejected scores have 90 days to remediate issues before re-audit or alternative sourcing is determined. New suppliers that receive Rejected ratings are not authorized for production. Timberland’s supplier sustainability team works with factories that are ATBU-High Risk (and are still being considered for production) to address critical issues before re-audit in 3-6 months. As the percentage of factories with Rejected scores decline, we expect factories with ATBU and Accepted scores to increase.

Factories that receive Rejected or ATBU – High Risk scores in VF’s compliance audits do not have basic levels of compliance. While we expect new suppliers to make improvements over time, our goal is for Timberland sourcing managers to place orders with suppliers that have basic levels of compliance at time of selection.

We utilize the environmental framework and scoring methodology of the Global Social Compliance Program (GSCP). A target of Level 2 means factories have achieved Proactive Management.

We utilize Social Accountability International (SAI)’s Social Fingerprint^® program to evaluate social performance of supply chain vendors. A target of Level 3 means factories have well-established social management system implemented and integrated into their operations.

Hours Utilization Rate (HUR) year to date

This employee engagement metric demonstrates employees’ use of the Path of Service™ program. Hours Utilization Rate (HUR) measures the percentage of available service hours offered to Timberland employees that employees use per year.

Benefit Utilization Rate (BUR) year to date

This employee engagement metric demonstrates employees’ use of the Path of Service™ program. Benefit Utilization Rate (BUR) measures the percentage of employees that report serving at least one hour per year.

% of non-TBL volunteer hours served at TBL service events (compared to TBL employee hours served)

This metric demonstrates the impact we have beyond our own employees’ service.
